What to Expect at Tryouts
Our tryouts are designed to be a positive experience for every player. Here is everything you need to know before, during, and after.
Before Tryouts
A little preparation goes a long way. Follow these steps so your child arrives confident and ready.
Register Online First
All players must register before tryouts. Walk-ins are not guaranteed a spot. Register here →
Arrive 15 Minutes Early
Check-in opens 15 minutes before the scheduled start time. Arriving early lets your child warm up and settle in before evaluations begin.
What to Bring
- Soccer ball (size appropriate for age)
- Shin guards (required)
- Water bottle
- Registration confirmation
What to Wear
- Comfortable athletic clothing
- Cleats (turf or firm ground)
- Team jersey if you already have one
- Layers for early morning sessions
During Tryouts
Each session runs 90 minutes. Here is how the time breaks down.
0 – 15 min
Check-In and Warm-Up
Players check in at the registration table, receive their number, and join a structured warm-up led by a staff coach.
15 – 45 min
Skills Stations
Rotating stations assess individual technical ability: dribbling under pressure, passing accuracy, and shooting technique.
45 – 75 min
Small-Sided Games
3v3 and 4v4 formats let coaches see how players read the game, communicate, and apply skills in live situations.
75 – 90 min
Full Scrimmage
An 11v11 or age-appropriate full scrimmage closes the session, giving players a final opportunity to showcase their game.
What Coaches Evaluate
After Tryouts
Results Within 48 Hours
You will receive an email with your child's team placement within 48 hours of their tryout session. Check your spam folder if you do not see it.
Team Placement
Players are placed based on skill level and development needs. Our goal is to find the right environment for each player to grow.
Every Player Finds a Level
KC Legends is not a pure cut program. If a player is not placed on a competitive team, we work with families to find an appropriate program within our club.
Season Registration
Accepted players receive detailed instructions for season registration, payment, uniform ordering, and the first practice schedule.
Tips for Parents
Your energy on the sideline matters more than you may realize.
Stay positive and supportive
Cheer for effort, not outcome. Players perform better when they feel safe to take risks.
Let coaches do the coaching
Sideline instructions from parents — even well-meaning ones — can conflict with what coaches are teaching and create confusion for your child.
Trust the process
One 90-minute tryout does not define your child's soccer future. Every player develops on a different timeline.
