Our History

35+ years of developing brave, creative soccer players in Kansas City. This is how it started — and where it has led.

The Founding Vision

In 1989, Andy Barney started Kansas City Legends with a belief that was uncommon in youth soccer at the time: that the best path to winning was developing individual players, not organizing defensive systems. Andy had watched too many youth programs sacrifice long-term development for short-term results, and he set out to build something different.

The club he built emphasized deceptive dribbling, creative expression, and equal playing time — principles Andy later codified in his coaching book, "Training Soccer Legends." Those principles remain unchanged today. The trophies, scholarships, and professional careers that followed are a product of that philosophy, not the goal of it.
